{"id":2497,"date":"2018-05-18T14:22:36","date_gmt":"2018-05-18T21:22:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/?p=2497"},"modified":"2018-05-21T11:20:31","modified_gmt":"2018-05-21T18:20:31","slug":"q2-2018-impact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/impact-journal\/q2-2018-impact\/","title":{"rendered":"Q2 2018 = BIGGER IMPACT!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Q2 2018 = BIGGER IMPACT!<\/p>\n<p>Q2 2018 \u2013 We now have FOUR groups meeting on a quarterly basis!\u00a0 Our new East Valley group selected their first charity and are adding $6,000 to our grand total.\u00a0 This quarter our groups touched the lives of individuals experiencing domestic violence; veterans; cancer patients and their caregivers; and seniors with dementia and associated challenges. Each of these organizations are doing important work in our community. Thanks to our members\u2019 giving hearts, we donated <strong>$33,500<\/strong>\u00a0this quarter and people&#8217;s lives are being impacted on a daily basis.\u00a0 To date, our chapter has donated $284,800 to local charities.<\/p>\n<p>Ahwatukee donated $11,200 to <a href=\"https:\/\/wingsforwarriors.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Wings for Warriors<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 This local charity is committed to helping our combat wounded Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans get the healthcare and financial benefits they deserve when they return home.<\/p>\n<p>Our donations will be used to help hire additional staff to assist in the implementation of their programs and outreach services.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2499\" src=\"https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/master-w4w-impact-journal.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/master-w4w-impact-journal.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/master-w4w-impact-journal-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Banner Health Foundation<\/strong>\u00a0was the recipient of $9,100 in donations from our Scottsdale group.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the scariest words a person can hear are &#8220;You have cancer.&#8221; It is an overwhelming experience. Once you get past the initial shock, your thoughts turn to &#8220;What&#8217;s next?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdanderson.org\/patients-family\/diagnosis-treatment\/patient-support\/mycancerconnection.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center<\/a>\u00a0has created a new program to address &#8220;What&#8217;s next?&#8221; <strong>myCancerConnection<\/strong> offers one-on-one support by connecting patients to a cancer support community of patients, survivors and caregivers who have been there. Requests are matched by disease, mode of treatment and experience. Support is open to patients, caregivers and cancer survivors who were treated anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Our donation will be used for outreach and implementation of the program in our community.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/BHF-impact-journal.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/BHF-impact-journal.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/BHF-impact-journal-150x96.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our West Valley sister group donated $2,400 to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newlifectr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>New Life Center<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0 New Life Center believes every family has the right to live free from violence. The organization offers shelter, safety, and services to families seeking independent, violence-free lives. High-quality programs demonstrate respect for the individual and a serene environment in which families can heal and plan for the future.<\/p>\n<p>Our donations will be used to support their programs including emergency shelter, children&#8217;s program, and outreach services.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2501\" src=\"https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Master-NLC.-impact-journaljpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Master-NLC.-impact-journaljpg.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Master-NLC.-impact-journaljpg-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our East Valley group selected <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oakwoodcreativecare.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Oakwood Creative Care<\/strong><\/a> and donated $6,000. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/OakwoodCCAZ\/?fref=mentions\">O<\/a>CC is a unique senior care option for individuals experiencing challenges associated with the aging process like dementia (Alzheimer&#8217;s and other related dementias), strokes, cancer, Parkinson\u2019s disease. OCC believes this shouldn&#8217;t stop someone from having purpose, meaning, and a place to belong.<\/p>\n<p>Our donations will be used to support their programs and therapies offered by OCC&#8217;s day club programs serving the East Valley.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2498\" src=\"https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/OCC-impact-journal.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/OCC-impact-journal.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.100wwcvalleyofthesun.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/OCC-impact-journal-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to our very own\u00a0Stephanie Millner for receiving the Outstanding Corporate Citizen award at the PACE Conference in Atlanta in April. Steph was recognized for her work with our chapter and for her BIG heart.
