Q2 meetings were held on April 26th and 27th.\u00a0 We have over 270 members in our chapter!\u00a0 Our members did a FANTASTIC job inviting guests this quarter.\u00a0 The vast majority of those guests turned into members!<\/p>\n

May is Skin Cancer Awareness month.\u00a0 Ahwatukee Skin & Laser<\/a> provided our Ahwatukee members with important information on identifying skin cancer on their bodies.\u00a0 Their office is conducting free skin cancer screenings on Friday, May 13th, from 12pm \u2013 2pm. CHARITY IMPACT STATEMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our Ahwatukee<\/strong> members heard from Liz Velazo and Ken Lynch from Tumbleweed<\/a>. Liz and Ken shared with us the significant impact our donation of $9,375 made on their organization. Five nights per week, staff and trained volunteers hit the streets of Phoenix and Tempe in search of youth living on the street.\u00a0 They offer food, clothing, water and hygiene items.\u00a0 This is the first step in building trust and rapport with these individuals.\u00a0 Our donation will help fund these efforts so more youth may be reached and brought off the street.\u00a0The staff and youth they serve presented our chapter with a lovely thank you gift signed by all of them.<\/p>\n

Sharon Bates, CEO and Founder of the\u00a0Anthony Bates Foundation<\/a> spoke to our Scottsdale<\/strong> group and described how our $7,000 donation will be used to bring two heart screening events to our community.\u00a0 ABF events save lives and Sharon wants to ensure the people in our communities get the opportunity to be heart healthy.<\/p>\n

Paz de Cristo<\/a> \u2013 Leslie Shamp-Beaver described how this organization empowers their guests to reach their full potential by removing barriers so they may become more self-sufficient.\u00a0 Paz de Cristo exists to help them achieve self-reliance, pride and self-respect. In turn, this leads to improved economic standing, respect for others, and citizenship participation.<\/p>\n

Maggie\u2019s Place<\/a> \u2013 Jill Norgaard shared how this organization provides houses of hospitality and ongoing support to help pregnant and parenting women in need reach their goals and welcome them into a community filled with love and dignity.\u00a0 Maggie\u2019s Place has provided food, shelter, supplies, support, and hope for hundreds of women and their babies over the past 15 years.<\/p>\n

Chandler T.R.A.C.<\/a> \u2013 Becky Luccitti has been a volunteer at this camp for foster kids for several years and described the impact the camps have on the kids.\u00a0 \u00a0T.R.A.C. is a summer camp where youth ages 12-15 experience the outdoors while participating in activities that improve trust, self-value and teamwork.\u00a0 The camps are held outside of Payson.\u00a0 The girls\u2019 camp is June 26 – 28 followed by the boys\u2019 camp on June 29 \u2013 July 1.<\/p>\n

Scottsdale<\/em><\/p>\n

Singleton Moms<\/a> – Temple Blackburn nominated this charity who is dedicated to nurturing single parents battling cancer and their minor children.\u00a0 They do this by meeting the practical day-to-day needs of the entire family, while providing hope for tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Gabriel\u2019s Angels<\/a> \u2013 Christine Wilson spoke about the charity\u2019s mission to deliver healing pet therapy to at-risk children, nurturing their emotional development and enhancing the quality of their lives forever. Registered therapy teams, made up of an individual and his\/her companion pet, engage children to develop and improve healthy core behaviors that are critical to normal development.<\/p>\n

SEEDS for Autism<\/a> \u2013 Debra Park explained how SEEDS works with all levels of the autism spectrum.\u00a0 They believe everyone deserves the chance to experiment, try new things and grow.\u00a0 Their program is designed to allow their participants to explore possibilities and discover new skills in a structured environment.\u00a0 Participants can learn skills such as computers, ceramics, jewelry making, metal artwork, sewing, weaving and woodworking along with social skills and job coaching.<\/p>\n
